Synorem Lokhet sprinted down the forest road, claws extended for better traction. He had been running flat out for half an hour now and his endurance had been pushed to its limits but desperation had kept him going. He would have teleported but it was impossible becuase he had never been to Ash'Ayn before. He had to hurry to warn the king about the dark threat. they had appeared at the Ash'Oru tree where he had been learning magic and warrior arts. dark shadows floating in the sky, whatever they touched dissintegrated. Magic had no effect The entire Oru tree had been destroyed, so had many of it's occupants. the gigantic Ayn tree was straight ahead. Now he was passing stranges creatures, guests to the king from other worlds staying within the safe boundaries of the no hunting zone aroun Ash'Ayn.
Kale glanced back, he was finally done with this land. The tide of devourers had been turned back. Sighing he walked in between and sideways, dissapearing of the face of the planet. it got harder and harder to beat them every time. Kale stepped out into a wooden throne roome but before he could get his bearings he was knocked painfully to the floor by something. Kale yelped in pain as a tiger put a paw on him, forcing him to stay down. Then a voice spoke out. It sounded of many seasons and hinted of power. "Magden, Release him." The tiger backed away, unabashed. "Master paladin,, I apologize for your rude welcome." The voice said as Kaye stood and oriented himself. There was a large white feline in front of him, of what species he could not tell. He was obviously king though. His presence was powerful, demanding respect. On his forhead was a black mark, Four diamonds, the symbol of nature. The king was a scion just like Kale. Synorem ran in that moment, another tiger trailing behind him. "You can't just run in like that," The tiger complained, "There is a procedure that must be followed!" Kale measured up the newcomer. He was most likely pure of heart, he felt pure of heart. "Synorem Lokhet," the king rumbled, "I know that of which you wish to warn me , and know this, help has already arrived." He switched his atention to Kale. "Master Paladin Kale, the devourers are already here and they have already destroyed one of our great trees, We need your help before it gets out of hand. My best mages are already working on a solution for to help you but the paladin magic is the only long lasting solution." Kale nodded, he already knew what it was he had to do. "I know, what I need is subject of yours that you trust, I need those pure of heart and spirit, ones that will stay that way otherwise This world is done for. I can already feel what strain of devourer we are dealing with. The Hive King goes by Daniel and he certainly is a threat. He is brand new and tricky. Of course the devourers will do what they always do in the begining but when Daniel's interest is caught..." Kale trailed off, He needn't explain further. "There are those from other worlds that visit here, I will round up those and my subjects, There will propably not be many though." "There never is." Kale said wearily. "I want to help." Synorem piped in.
An hour later they were in a large wooden room, in it were the hopes for this world.

Keena crouched atop his normal perch, a tall stone pillar on the top of Tower Akess. The morning light from behind him emblazoned the Nako plains in swaths of crimson. Beyond that, the Kevos Arm reached out towards him from the Kevos Range. "You ready to go?" A feminine voice called from below. "Time already?" Keena asked. "Yeah, they just sent the message out a minute ago." Kyra said. Keena nodded, then stood carefully to balance on the few inches of the stone. Below him, many hundreds of feet down, the morning's busy workers hustled and bustled like worker ants. Keena reached out mentally and grabbed Kyra, transporting them to their room. keena's blade was a paladin blade forged for him by a man named Z back on Earth. It was in the shape of a pickaxe with a curved blade perpindiclar to the main about six inches from the tip. This blade disappeared as he placed it to his back, withdrawn into an ethereal "storage" realm. His armor was light, covering only the necessities, saving for movement. Over his black tunic and pants was his blck armor, and over this he donned his black cloak that billowed around his sides. He watched intently and passionately as Kyra slid from her dirty wok clothes into her dark green tunic and brown leather pants. Her armor was dark green, just as light as Keena's. Her long elven blade was strapped to her black, she wore no cloak. "Ready?" He asked. "Yeah." keena concentrated on the large, open space of the tree, and the pair was launched forward through space.
When Keena's feet touched the wooden floor, he could instantly smell the Devourers. It was a dank, acidic smell that itched his throat and made him snarl. He pushed the smell from him with a bit of energy shield, and took in his surroundings. There were a few Paladins already there. He looked for Kale, and found him. Kyra followed him. "Good day, Master Kale." Keena said politely. Paladin business was usualy low on his list of challenges, but he knew that it was an important duty, and he needed to be the front lines of the defense that kept any dangers from Sarmatia or the Origin. Kyra bowed her head to the Paladin. "We got your message." She said. "How many are there this time?" She asked nervously. She had been on one mission where there had been but three, and she never wanted to return, yet lo and behold, here she was. she had spent the last ten thousand years on Earth as a human child, and it had taken a while to get used to her elven features again. Itsaki had sent her on a Paladin mission to to reiterate herself with things again. That and making her stay in a hut with her brother for three months. She missed Sarmatia, but she almost passed out at the sight of Keena. Keena had been her lover in the year 2065, but she had left him, and when she saw him there in Sarmatia, she ran into him, crying into his chest. Keena unconciously toyed with a ball of Timestream energy that, to anyone that wasn't part of the Timestream, looked like a wispy ball that was only visible in small bits, but to someone who was part of te Timestream, it looked like a misty blue ball that contorted and floated like a tamed cloud. This cloud though, the single ball that sat in Keena's hand, could destroy an army in a single blow. The advantages of being a Sorcerage.

Kaye nodded towards Keena and Kyra, welcoming there company even though he knew that Keena didn't really find fighting the Devourers as draining as he did. He tilted his gestured to Synorem, introducing him as a possible paladin. Then he explained the price of failure. If this world was destroyed natures scion would also be destroyed. This would thouroghly unbalance the rest of the related lands, making it very easy for the devourers to snap up the rest. Once one universe fell, the others would be soon to follow, like dominoes. "But we must head out now, They are already multiplying. Keena, Kyra, You both need to be refreshed as paladins as it wears off when I leave, as for Synorem, I will give you enough to defend yourself but I cannot make you a full paladin becuase if you turn out not to be pure of heart you will doom us." Kale puased to let the implications of that statement sink in before continuing back to the homonids. " You both know the drill, Put out your hands so I can reach them. He walked over to them, waiting.

"Don't worry, I've been ready, Kale." Keena said as he put his hands out for Kale. Kyra repeated the gesture. "I am here to help you, as an old friend, and also because I am the sworn defender of Sarmatia and the Origin, so I must do what I must, an I know that you are tiring, I must offer as much help to you as possible." Keena said.

Kale tapped his snout on each offered hand, power rushed to both homonids, paladin magic was given to both, marking their promise to be pure of heart and soul and givingthem both the tools the needed to defeat the devourers. Then he walked over to Synorem. Lifting himself onto his hind legs he put his nose right behind the cheetah's ear. ((☼☼☼☼☼)) a spark passed from Kale to Synorem but it did not hurt. The cheetah blinked, surprised that there was not more. "Ok, synorem, take us to were the atack happemed." Synorem casted a net of magic over the others then tleported them back to Ash'Oru. The entire tree was gone.In its place were many creatures that had a resemblance to big cats but looked as if they were made of oil. Kale walked boldy forward, this was just another day.

Keena rolled his eyes at the sight of the beasts. Devourers, and they were rank. Keena drew his sword ((it appeared in his hand)) and fell into step just a pace behind Kale, Kyra waited, her bow was drawn at the sight of them. Paladin magic coursed along the magiphilic blade in Keena's hand, and it gathered itself at the tip of Kyra's arrow.

First one devourer noticed the march towards them, then suddenly, all heads, if that is what you could call them, were facing the group. Synorem stayed back, knowing he didn't have enough to destroy one. The sun felt cold on kale's fur, it was beggining. The nearest six reacted, heading towards kale and Keena whil four more went straight for Kyra and Synorem. Kale charged forward, Th devourers copied, some of which had now taken on the form of a fox others humanoid. Kales teeth shined unnaturaly as they locked down on the throat of one of the fox-forms, some extra pressure dissintigrated it, leaving a slimy film in his mouth. A lion-form bit at him, a bright orb stopped most of it but he was injured lightly. He squirmed away and hopped to the side as a humanoid-form scooped down at him, to envelope him. The devourers, formed a kind of ring around him. They would only attack the master paladin and the locals until they were attacked by ones from other worlds.

Kyra loosed three arrows in rapid succession as soon as she saw the Devourers' march towards them. All three hit their marks, but one, in the form of a large cougar, stood back up from the assault. That didn't last long. Keena swung the sword in a low arc, slicing one of the beasts open, then hacked apart another one. He swung the blade down like an axe, knicking one with the tip, and cutting one open like butter. One more arc to the right took out enough so that the Master Paladin was not overwhelmed, hten, with three steps to the right, a dash to the left at a forty-five degree angle and an overhand blow later, the fourth devourer that advanced upon the other two were gone.

Kale took down one after another, grateful of the help he was recieving. When about twenty were left things started getting difficult. The hive king made an early appearance. A shadow formed on the ground, it grew, forming geometric shapes with a rotational symmetry on the groundform the center of this shade rose shapeless pulsing pitch. The pitch elongated, twisting and writhing, all devourers vanished. Eventually the blackness was in the form of a dragon, it's appearances very insectoid. It solidified, bringing definition to the carapace and the long,, vicious teeth and claws. The shadow underneath the monster disappeared to reveal a more mundane form of darkness. The dragons shoulders were twice the hieght of a man but it's neck and tails stretched out snake-like. The Hive King turned it's face upon Kale, revealing that it had no eyes. A shiver ran through Kale, he had seen nothing like this before, the hive king grew in creativity every clash. Destruction seeped from between it's triple row of metallic, serrated teeth. Kale took two steps back then channeled all the energy he could muster, his body burned with Sun's power, his fur stood on end as if from static electricity, a faintly blue aura shimmered around him. Daniel showed no sign of defense. Kale released the power he built up, a beam shooting out from the aura he had taking on the color of molten metal. It struck the giant monster knocking it down, there was no other effect.

Keena shuddered at the beast before him. He hadn't seen anything like it before. These ones had imagination. The magic glinted at the end of his sword, bt after the beam that kale had hit it with, e was unsure that metal would be enough to bring it any damage. A roar from behind him said otherwise.
Merik flew through the forest with an inhuman speed, his claws kicking up earth in their wakes, his wings brushed the branches of the trees on both sides. The vultures flew above him with sadistic calls. They thought he was injured. He could have taken them twenty minutes ago, but he liked to play with his food. He leapt over a fallen tree, skirting an age old baobab. His left wing brushed the entire side of a tree off, and e felt the calling misting around him. "Dammit." He muttered. He rolled his eyes and jumped into the sky, boucing to a thick tree and rebounding off, lifting into the sky with one thrust of hi wings. He shot himself into the midst of the huge vultures, and they squawked in fright. He snapped at one, and it's wings stayed fast in his jaws. He grabbed it, and with a few shakes, the bird was limp and the others were fleeing, glad to keep their lives. He finished devouring the vulture, and finally answered the smoky calling. He was shot through space as though from an interstellar ballista. The world tha opened up below him was one he was unfamiliar with. The trees formed into houses and the branches became walkways. It was quite astounding, and it reminded him of the world where cat-people lived in trees to escape the ravages of the beasts that lived below. He spun, roaring a welcome to the beings below, felines, animals, a few drakes and even a wyvern. He could instantly smell Devourers, though. The acrid smell of smoke and acid coated his throat. He felt Keena, too, an old friend that he had once fought beside. He followed Keena's energy signature, it was quite distinct. He banked, the win rippling beneath his leathery wings. The smell of Devourers got stronger as he got closer to Keena, so he must be fighting them. He flew faster, now a dart through the air. Below, he saw the Hive King materialize. It was a nasty one. He roared his battle cry.
Keena looked to see the gold dragon bank to them, his scales glittering in the sunlight. He had responded fast, like a good paladin. The dragon dipped lower, a challenge to the Devourer before them. Merik's claws glinted with yellow energy, as did his teeth. In a fell swoop, his serrated metal talons raked deep wounds across the body of the King before he set down and snapped rapidly with his teeth. The dragon stood fifteen feet easy at the shoulder, his wingspan cleared fifty. His long tail ended in a glittering row of spikes, he was a small part chimera, so his spikes were long and metallic, but he could not shoot them like other forms of chimera. Magic coursed through his veins, pulsing in response to the Devourer that stood before him.

Even though Merik's paladin magic would have faded away long ago, he was a golden dragon, the only reason he could even touch a devourer without disintigrating. Daniel looked surprised, then smug. He faded into shadow for just a second, reforming without wounds. He leered at the newcomer, then decided to start attacking. A ball of shadow appeared around him, cutting a halph sphere shped hole beneath him as his wings kept him hovering in the air. The dragon roared, black energy shooting out it's mouth cuting a large swathe in the forest.

Merik dodged the blasts with graceful ease. He grew up in war, and if he couldn't dodge a thousand arrows and two dozen ballistae, he wouldn't be here. His scales were made of gold alumate, which, as he found out, held onto paladin magic quite well. That and he had been on consecutive paladin missions for the past hundred years. He would be surprised if Kale wouldn't remember him, he had fought with him, though maybe not /with/ him, on the last planet. Merik shot into the sky, then swung in a tight arc, his tail loose and extended. Paladin magic lmost dripped from the slikes on his tail as they slammed into the beast with the force of explosives.

((Blast. it was like one continuos stream of destructive energy. Paladin magic goes where it is needed, I can see it being clingy to creatures of magic but not enough that it would last more than 2 days otherwise it would have gone back to Kale, where it was needed. I could see, maybe some remnants, but certainly not dripping, unless he gathered it all into that little bit using all of the rest of it up. oh, and also, you don't control the Hive King so you know, so far, you haven't wrote anything that wouldn't happen but you very likely will. oh, and last thing, could you explain the not /with/ thing. Well, with that said...))
"Merik! Get down here!" Kale shouted, knowing he would be heard. Just after, the dragon's spikes clanged into the Hive King then sloshed through as the area was left in a thck, jelly-like state. The Hive Kings head snaked out, almost faster than could be seen, his three rows of sharper than razor teeth aimed at the dragons neck.

((Kale just left the last planet the same day as he got to this one? Merik left a day earlier, leaving Kale to finish things up, he took a day of reprieve, eating (vultures) and then was called here by Keena. Merik is a puddle jumper like Kale. Quit being a dork and read every word of the post. 'That and he had been on consecutive paladin missions for the past hundred years'.)
Merik rolled his eyes. "Damn Hive King." Merik rolled once, spinning away from the jaws of the oozing mold, then swooped around and landed lithely beside Kale. "Yes? Miss me already? It's only been, what, two days?"

((Kale isn't a hundred years old. He's a newbie, he has been a paladin for only about less than a year. Yes I know it doesn't say he was on missions with Kale but I just want you to know. The Master Paladin before him was a female elf named Clarity, she lived as a master paladin for 412 years, two days after she died Kale was recruited. I could tell you the entire history of paladins and how their magic works if you would like.)) "You know how I feel when you don't get a booster. I know that you have plenty left in you becuase you somehow can hold onto it, but the moment that is gone the only thing you will have left is you dragon enchantments, and honestly, that only works to a point as you well know. Kale put his paw out, touching Merik's (claw talon foot? I dunno something along those lines) transferring paladin magic. Synorem Lokhet stared at the whole seen in awe, he had never seen anything like this before, obviously. Anger boiled within him at the giant black beast, it had wiped his tree off the face of the planet. He ran to Kale, paying no more attention to the golden or black dragon. "Kale, I have to do something other than just sit here dumbfounded! Give me what I need to kill this beast!"
