Sora stepped forward on her graceful little paws, her claw tips showing slightly. She was not a force to reckon with. She crouched down over the kill, then sunk her teeth into the thigh of the beast, savoring the tough flesh. Her huge canines flared in he sun as her mouth opened wide to allow her back teeth to rip at the carcass. The hybrid only ate a small amount for she had eaten yesterday and she wasn't a gorger- she wanted to be able to run if she had to, and a gorged cat can't run. She sauntered back to Niko and sat about a yard from him and began to bathe, a soft purr playing in her throat.

Niko stared, and after she was done, allowed the other tow their turns at eating, and before long, more than half of the gazelle had been eaten and left for the vultures. Niko turned and headed back towards the main area, where the other Cheetahs would be waiting for them. Little did they know...

Sora sauntered lazily along behind him, batting at grass tufts in an idle way. As Niko began to get farther ahead, she took to a slow lope, catching up with him quickly. "Well, now what is it you guys do? Can't say I have ever spent time with a cheetah pack before."

Niko was silent, not ignoring her, but hesitating to answer. He waited until they arrived at their home, where Riko was waiting patiently for them. "So have you told her?" Riko asked. "No." Niko replied. Riko sighed, and walked before Sora. "We are leaving. You are welcome to join us. In fact, we hope you join us." Riko said, almost pleading. "When are we leaving?" Niko asked him. "Now." "That bad already?" Riko nodded, and turned tail towards a tall rock that made up one side of their home. He climbed up the sloping side of the wall, to the very top, where there was a platform, giving a wide view of everything around them for miles. Niko looked out to where Riko motioned, and saw what he didn't like. It was a city. A human city.

Sora yawned, then ran up after them with little difficulty despite her larger size. "Pah. Twolegs." Sora spat, thrashing her tail. "Think they own everything. Fiends." She growled and leapt down from the plateau- all the way down from the top. She landed heavily, but easily recovered from the phenomenal jump. She walked back to where she had first met the cheetah pack and flattened her ears, facing south. "I recommend that way. Not so many people if you go far enough. I know a black lioness that lives far south, she wouldn't care if a cheetah posse was in her area." She said this all quietly, in a musing tone.

Niko walked off of the rock, around to face Sora. "They forced us out of our old home, they killed Riko's brother." He looked to the south. "I guess we could go that way, as long as you're sure we wouldn't be intruding on anyone's territory." Niko thought about it. The other cheetahs made a group in front of him. "We have to go now. If we don't we will all be captured, if not killed." He turned to Sora. "Lead the way."

"I am sorry to hear about your brother, Riko." She inclined her head sympathetically. "As for heading south- as I said, the lioness there leads her pride, not a lion. And she is very social and friendly, not to mention she has plenty of food to go around. She will not mind our presence." With a final glance in the direction the the city, Sora growled again, then loped off in typical lion pace towards the south. "It will take us many days to get there. The fastest I traveled it was eight days and I ran full out without stopping to eat, only to sleep and drink. We will pass through many different environments, so be prepared. I expect for us to get there in about twenty days if we go quickly but still stop to eat from time to time. Not that there is any rush." As she said that, she glanced back at Niko with a grin, then a powerful snap filled the air. Sora let out a cat scream and fell to the ground. "Make that twenty-five to thirty days." She groaned, her hind leg caught in a human trap. Blood ran freely from the wound and the thick wire band dug in deeper every time she wiggled and pulled.
((It's called a snare wire. They are typically placed on trees to strangle animals, but some are placed on the ground to catch an animal by the foot. I saw it on an episode of Untamed and Uncut on Animal Planet. The wire was around a baby rhino's leg and it had tightened so much that it was touching the bone. It rhino had managed to break free of the ground, but in the process the wire had tightened to a bad point. Sora's leg is softer and smaller, meaning it is a bigger threat of completely removing her foot altogether. ^_^ Drama!))

"Oh my gosh! The humans are going to kill us all!" Riko yelled, sending some of the younger Cheetahs into a panic. "Riko, Shut up!" Niko yelled. "Sora, don't move. At all." Niko tried biting at the wire that was attached to the ground. No good, it was metal. Niko then tried pulling on the wire, hoping that it would come free from the ground, and hoping that he wouldn't hurt Sora in the process. It was no good, he couldn't free it. Niko thought for a while, and then winced when an idea finally came into his head. "Sora, you're going to kill me. Thank goodness you can't right now. Just try not to move at all. Riko and the rest will protect you if anything gets near. I am, well, I am going to the human city. I have heard stories where there are people who heal animals. I can get someone to get you out. They aren't like the bad humans that set up traps, they are good ones. I am going to see if they can help you." Before any of the others could protest Niko's wild idea, he sprinted off towards the city.

"No!" Sora yelled, jumping forward, forcing the wire deeper into her leg. She screamed another roar of pain, then lay down, her breathing heavy and labored as she fought the nauseating waves of pain. The wire had already gone in more than halfway. Sora turned her head and tried to chew on the wire as well, but to no avail. It made her teeth sting. Panic was beginning to settle in; her heart beat was rapid and fluttery. The problem was- not only was she trapped in a human snare and waiting for a cheetah to go get a human to help her, she was left alone with a bunch of young male cheetahs. Her body began to shake with fear.

Riko nodded to the other cheetahs, and they formed a circle around Sora. They weren't even letting a spider get near her. They all sat down, facing out, not wanting Sora to feel too uncomfortable. After a few minutes, Riko stood, and walked over to sit beside Sora. He leaned his head down. "You like him, don't you." Riko said in the lightest voice he could. He could see that the female was uncomfortable. Was it because she was surrounded? Or because she was surrounded by males? "Niko's a good guy. I'm glad he found you. I know he wouldn't let anything happen to you." He looked off in the direction of the human city. "He's been my best friend for years. I know he'll pull through, he always does."
As if reading his thoughts, Niko let out an anguished cry, sitting sullen in the corner of a cage, watching as the humans walked by, attempting to take his blood, give him strange food. Niko only bit their hands as they offered them. He did nothing but sit and cry. Damn humans betrayed him. He realized that they were never to be trusted. He cried again. He would cry and hiss until the humans freed him. He sat screaming for hours before one human finally opened the door of the cage. The building he was in was long, and had a few animals in it, some crying and screaming like he had been. The human put a leash around his neck, and Niko pulled to the door. The human allowed him to go, keeping a firm grip on the leash. Once outside, Niko layed down on the ground, biting his leg, and looking up at the human, who had an odd expression on his face. Obviously he didn't understand. Niko pointed with a paw in the direction of the other cheetah's and Sora. He bit his leg again, and feigned limping. When the human still didn't understand, Niko slid out of the leash, and before the human could react, he slid the leash around his leg, tightening the rope so that it was tighter around his leg. He then bit his leg again, and pointed. The human finally understood this. It released the leash from around his leg, and made a sign like it wanted him to stay here. Niko stayed, while she dashed back inside. She came out with another person, who had a bag of tools and a bag that Niko thought probably had medical supplies in it. Niko started towards home, slowly so the humans could follow. He noticed that the sun was beginning to sink lower towards the horizon. The other human that didn't have bags had two things, one in each hand. Niko hoped they would make light, or maybe humans could see in the dark, like cats could. He hoped not. It took about ten minutes for them to rech his home. The humans were slow, it took Niko about two minutes by himself. Niko leaped when they came into sight, and the humans sped up. Niko hoped that Sora was still okay.

Sora glanced up at Riko, then nodded, "He is a good friend. As for anything more than that... I have known you all for a day. I am not ready to make such a decision." She gazed off towards the human city as well, and sighed. "Me too." She glanced around at the guys again, her body still shaking. So the hybrid took the best course of action, she closed her eyes and tried to ignore everything. The cat didn't move all day. As the sun began to drop and dusk began to settle over the lands, Sora opened her eyes and tried to shift her stiff body. This had the negative reaction of pulling the wire, and the female let out another pained scream before she could stop it. The pain was near unbearable. The skin was now so raw and sensitive it brought tears to her eyes, and she roared again, her whole body tensing and preparing to thrash in the way animals do when they are stressed, in pain, or trapped.

Riko heard Sora's roar, and knew she was in pain. He took off on a sprint towards her, the humans running as well. Niko ran to Sora, almost tackling Feri as he did so. "Sora! Don't move! I brought help. Stay still, they'll get you out and make you feel better. Please, don't move!" Feri moved for the humans. They both had another odd expression when they set eyes on Sora. One turned on one of the things and it made a lot of light that pointed at Sora's leg. The other human took out a thing that he used to cut the wire where it connected to the ground. He then put some wierd smelling stuff on her leg. "I told you," Niko said to Sora. "You're going to be fine."

Sora, in simple terms, flipped out. The second the human put the thing on her she turned savage, bucking and snapping wildly at anything that came near her. Her sides heaved as she began to hyperventilate, the pain in her leg finally becoming unbearable. Within a minute after her freak out, she dropped like a stone to the ground, her senses giving in to the pain and forcing her into unconsciousness.

Niko stood back when Sora flipped. He felt sorry for her, and the pain she was in. When she fell unconcious, the human instantly worked quickly, putting stuff in her. The two humans kept speaking in some language that was impossible to comprehend. One took a tool that was smaller than the things he used to cut the wire. It was the same, but smaller. It put it carefully in the wound, and squeezed. There was a snap, and the wire fell away from her leg. The human instantly put some more weird stuff in her wound, and wrapped some white stuff around it. Once secured, the human stood up, looked to Niko, and looked to Sora. Niko sort of nodded, and the two humans walked away. Niko didn't think they would leave. He laid next to the unconcious Sora, nuzzling up to her. The other cheetahs silently walked away, finding somewhere to sleep for the night.

It was many hours before Sora regained consciousness. The sky was beginning to lighten when her lavender eyes fluttered open and she groaned. A bolt of fear struck her- humans, males surrounding her, pain. She shot to her feet, but the strange white stuff on her paw made it hard to bend it and the pain was intense. She promptly dropped to the ground again with a growl. Slowly this time, Sora stood back up, her sore paw held up almost to her chest. "I- I'm alive." She said softly, fur rustling in the breeze.
