Powerful hooves carried the giant equine over the dunes with little difficulty. Of course, the massive brute wasn't on the thin sand, but rather the hard, packed down sand that was near the Savannah. The stallion snorted, raising his nose to the sky and taking a deep breath. As usual, no predators about at the time. With a screaming whinny, the stallion plunged forward in a gallop, reveling in the feel of the wind as it burst upon his body and flowed through his long and silky mane and tail. Freedom. It was a beautiful thing. Cloud was free to go where he pleased- he had no herd tying him down, no humans lived in this part of the desert, and he was young and full of energy. He could dodge any predator that came his way, and if he couldn't outrun it (Chances are he could), then he would kill it. Black hooves pounded at the sand as he charged a camel herd, blasting past them with another glorious whinny. Nothing could stop him. Life belonged to the equine, and nothing could change that.
*NOTE* Cloud doesn't speak. Ever. When I post, it will be his actions and I will put in his thoughts, but unless you are telepathic (Which you shouldn't be, this is mostly a reality rp, not extreme fantasy) you will not get words from him. You will have to try to understand his body language. His thoughts will be in italics. ^_^

Athral soared high above the sands. He was trying to find a new place he could call home. He had a nest, built securely in the face of a large cliff, but some creature managed to eat one of the eggs, and knock the others off while hehad been hunting. So now Athral searched for a home, any home. He sort of like the desert. It had plenty of food for him, and even though it was hot, it was cooler up high, and there were plenty of thermals that he could catch, so he normally just glided, his wings free and his mind wandering. He watched below as cacti were made home to all sorts of birds and other creatures, and he saw the rocky hills and the herds of camel, grazing the sparse grasses. He also saw an unusual sight. A lone horse, running through the camels, scaring them. Athral dove down, slowly and gradually. When he got low enough, he sped towards the hosrse, gliding just above its head. It was a big horse. Maybe it lost its master on a race across the desert, Athral had seen all too many cases of that happen. Or, maybe it was just happy to be free, just as Athral did.

Cloud caught sight of the bird above him and hit the brakes, intrigued by the strange creature. He had never seen a bird by day. Rearing up, Cloud kicked his powerful fore hooves into the air and whinnied a loud, curious challenge. He didn't by any means wish to fight, just, inspect. Knowing the nature of birds, Cloud trotted over to a small, withered tree for it to land on if it decided to come down and see him as well.

Athral zipped ahead when the horse stopped. He soared in a graceful circle, before landing on the lowest branch of the tree that the horse had rode up beside. He folded his wings, and looked at the beast with curiosity. "Hello, there, lone equine. What might your name be? Mine is Athral. The golden eagle spread his wings.

Cloud considered the bird called Athral curiously, cocking his head to the side and touching Athral's wings gently with his nose. What an interesting bird! It had different feathers from the desert owls. Cloud glanced up at the sky and snorted. 'Cloud.' he thought, rearing up and kicking at the sky, then turning his neck to touch a white blotch on his body. 'Cloud.' He thought again. The young stallion pranced on his toes, ears alert and nostrils flaring. He flicked his long, silky, ebon tail, green eyes never leaving Athral. Quickly his eyes darted to the lone whisp of white in the bright blue sky, then he touched his flank again before locking gaze with Athral. 'Cloud!' He thought, whinnying loudly, joyously.

"Sky? No. Cloud! You're name's Cloud, eh? Obviously you don't talk much. Well, i guess we'll get along." He stretched his wings some, then folded them back in. "So, Cloud, where are you headed to? I mean, there's got to be somewhere you want to go, right?"

Cloud whinnied happily as Ahtral said his name, then looked off into the distance. Where was he going? Well, nowhere, quite frankly. He had just been running. 'Hither and thither.' Cloud thought, pawing the ground. His head shot up and he nosed the bird again. 'Race!' He thought happily, lips pulling back in a grin. He bolted a few paces, then stopped, looked back at Athral, then did it again, pausing to look back once more. 'Follow!' He whinnied, then tore off towards the east, hooves kicking up sand.

Athral would have smiled if his beak weren't solid. He liked this horse. It was definately not a tame horse. Athral pushed away from the tree and followed the horse. He flew fast, for he wanted to beat the horse to nowhere. Let's see who would win.

Cloud charged hard, his breath coming in powerful bursts. Eying a target, the stallion put on an extra burst of speed, then leapt over the dead tree and halted. Athral burst overhead. A tie! How pleasant! Cloud whinnied and kicked the sky in a buck, charging in a quick circle as he made it clear to the world that Athral was his new (and only) best friend. No one had ever beaten the stallion in a race. Whickering, he trotted off in another direction at random before stopping suddenly and scenting the air. Wild dogs. Cloud leapt up only a few inches off the air, slammed down and pawed the ground angrily. They dare to enter his turf? 'Predators! Stay in the air!' Cloud thought, whistling through his teeth and flicking his head into the air before trotting off to investigate the intruders.

Athral recognized Cloud's cry, as he spent plenty of time around Scottish horses. Athral glided around, staying close to the ground, but a safe distance from it. Athral glided past Cloud, seeing what the ruckus was about. ahead he saw a few dogs, dirty and ragged, not at all like a previous wolf he had known. He circled back above Cloud, low so that the horse could hear him. "I can help you if needed. I've taken out worse things than them."

Cloud shook his powerful head, mane flicking wildly. I fought them before. He thought, charging ahead, teeth bared angrily. The dogs, spotting him, growled and formed a flanking position. Knowing their plans, Cloud burst through the middle of them and turned sideways, leaping straight up into the air and kicking the dogs that had leapt at him. When all dogs were out of the air, he charged the ones in front of him down, trampling one and biting the other. He lifted the dog in his teeth and threw it, turning to take care of the rest. Scared, the remaining dogs fled- they would take on this horse another day. Cloud let out a victory shriek, prancing about happily.

Athral watched the horse's battle. He wanted to help, but he was intrigued. He was impressed with the horse. Athral, being a bird, would have had to fly up and dive at one, and it would have been a lot more difficult and long. Athral flew down and perched lightly on the horse's back, being wary of his talons, not letting them touch the horses back. "Good job, laddie."

Cloud flicked his mane and turned his head to whicker at Athral happily. Thanks! He tossed his mane again, then started to trot off in a random direction. Cliff! He snorted, motioning his head towards the brown bumps in the distance. Find food and mares. He snorted in an almost coy manner. He had no interest trying to start a herd. Just harass the mares and see if he could find a nice spirited one. And at the cliffs he had seen weird birds flying around. Maybe one was like Athral. They could both mare-chase! Cloud whickered at his idea, then picked up pace to a slow canter.

Athral picked up Clouds direction, and lifted into the air. He glided towards the cliffs, also looking down at the ground. He was getting hungry. He spotted food and dove steeply at the ground, snatching the hare in his talons, squeezing it until blood ran from it, and it eventually stopped moving. Athral landed on the ground, munching happily on the hare. He didn't stop until it was nothing but a pile of messy bones. He then rejoined Cloud, full and re energized. "Off we go, lad."

Cloud tossed his mane and let out a powerful cry, then burst off in a full gallop towards the cliffs. The ground slowly became rockier and the grass more prevalent. The equine suddenly halted, flinging up dirt. He threw his head in the air and scented it, then trotted forward to rub his body along the cliff. Territory marking. Pleased with his marker, he began to graze. The sound of more birds made him flick his ears up and roll his eyes so he could see while grazing. Sure enough, more birds like Athral, plus other types. Swishing his tail, Cloud resumed his meal.
