Kaye awoke. It was dawn. 'In Life's name and for Life's sake,' The mantra repeated over and over in his head. He loved his job. He got to save the world one bit of energy at a time. He yawned and stretched, getting out of his bed. Another day, another way he could do good for the world. He got up and performed a quick and easy spell, one that he had on the wizard's term of speed dial. it made the air around him cool down to a more comfortable temperature. It was very hot. As he got done with his morning routine he went to the corner of his street. If he was correct, somone who also knew about the book.

Kaia held the book open in one hand, trying to do a rather complicated spell. She knew that she could probably do it, but she wasn't quite sure. She read from a page at the back of the book, her notes section. She had copied the spell from a friends book. The goal was to hopefully cast several shields around her house, all at the same time. She was a beginner, she not been a wizard more than a month. This was a bit hard for her. After a while, she gave up and walked through the house and out to the street, searching for an old friend of hers.

Kaye opened a little pocket of otherspace, his hand tracing through the air like he was opening a zipper. he reached inside the pocket that held his stuff and pulled out a slightly tattered book. It was th book that he had found, or, found him rather. It was the book he took the oath from and he cherished it. He looked to one of the pages to check the time. The one he was supposed to meet up with was running .02 seconds late so far. He disregarded the miniscule time lapse, no one was perfect and put his cherished book back into the pocket and zipped it up again. He was really excited about what he thought they might do. He loved working large spells, in the thralls of magic he felt like he was everything and nothing and he loved it.

((Just lurking around and reading this, so I thought I would point something out. The magic use in this book series is similar to two other trilogies I have read- Bartimaeus and the Obsidian Trilogy. In Bartimaeus they likewise have shields over their homes and use otherspace, or netherworld as Silver calls it. In the Obsidian Trilogy, only adepts will have the three books come to them, "The book of the moon", "The book of the sun", and, "The book of the stars", I believe. I would have to check that (I haven't read the trilogy in a year) but yes, if non-magics see the book, they just see childrens books. The person that knows they are magic books will be quite unable to get rid of them. They stick to you, kinda like the remote in Click. Only less sadistic. Each book gets progressively harder and more technical. After Kellen gets his, he constantly complains about their difficulty. ^_^ Both are amazing trilogies, if you haven't read them, you should.))

Kaia walked down the street to the familiar corner, where, sure enough, there he was. "Hey Kaye!" She called. She stored her book, running to him. She halted beside him. "How are you?" she asked. "I have a question for you," she stated, staring at him. "I am planning a trip to Rirhath soon, you wanna come?"

Kaye noticed his friend Kaia and waved as she ran. "Dai!" He called, it was a greeting used often in the Speech. "I am well, you?" He was kind of hoping the Powers that Be might have had a job for him. He wasn't sure how much someone who speacialized in weather might be useful in Rirhath but then again, he was two years a wizard now and he had decent skill in all other forms of magic. It was a learn or die kind of job. "Rirhath huh? Sure. Lets go to our usual spot." He was reffering to the spot where he and/or Kaia could do large spells without getting normal people involved.

"Sounds good. " Kaia took off down the street, cutting down an alley between two houses. This opened up into an abandoned housing project. Beyond that was the woods that bordered the freeway. Kaia walked into the woods, greeting her favorite tree as she did so, a large ash tree. The tree dropped a reddening leaf for her, and she stored it away in her otherspace pocket. She continued into the woods, until it eventually opened into a small, round clearing, perfect for laying out a spell chain. "Okay, I was working on this last night, I hope I got it right. I was tired of speaking out the spell, so I just made a chain. I want you to check it, see if I got it right. I think I did. I even triple checked it, so it should be right, but I don't want us ending up in the middle of alpha centauri or some star like that."

Kaye checked the chain, It was very good spelling, intuitive and high vocabulary, for one so new to the business. The thing about traveling to a place so far away was that normally you needed to travel to a world-gate. The nice thing about a good vocabulary in speech, a lot a practice, and use of stored up energy plus some helping items, was that you could create your own world-gate in a much less permanent form. He had practiced the spell to perfection last summer with a buddy of his that also traveled to Rirhath quite a bit. It was their old stomping grounds. He thought back to the time Ch'g~sd, or Chad for easy pronounciation, had dared him to do one of the most taboo acts in all the universe. To go into a bathroom of another species. He had been bound to Earth, for doing so but that was ok. Chad had visited him every day, they had many luaghs together but lately they had fallen out of touch. It was mating season for the Ch'guyan and Chad heeded the call of nature. He would propably be at Rirhath now though. He loved loitering around the place, alien watching.

Kaia took the chain, laying it around in a circle, then stepping inside. She checked to make sure everything was in order, before locking it with the Wizard's Knot. "Okay, let's head out, shall we?"

Kaye luaghed. She was forgeting the most important part of a spell. Their names! Pulling a his Speech name out of his otherspace pocket, he double checked it then added it to the correct spot in the chain. He then enterred the circle and prepared to do the chant.

"Heh. Oops." Kaia pulled her name out as well, inserting it into its correct position. She entered the ring and began her chant with Kaye. A shining globe formed around them, and the entire universe leaned in to listen. Their chants formed together to create a single voice, it was like music, perfectly harmonious. There was a pop as the displaced air rushed back into place, and when the globe disappeared, it gave them vision to a grand sight.

Ah. This was his favorite part, the words in speech left everything around him in a hushed silence, prepared to take any sugestion he might give. The suggestion he had then was to put them right at a transport spot in Rirhath. A pop in the air, they were at Rirhath, he took a little time to get to grips with the change then he promptly stepped out of the transport area. His throat hurt and he was very tired, transporting with only one person to help would take it out of a person, luckily, he could spend as long as he liked, his parents didn't really care about what he did. He felt something carefully gnaw his left hand. Chad! Chad looked a bit like a black footed ferret except with the diminsions of a labrodor with large green, almost humanoid, eyes. He turned around to look at the alien and lightly patted his head in greeting. His friend looked sad. "Hello old friend, does something ail you?" He said in english, Chad could speak it with no issue.

Kaia looked around. Rirhath certainly was impressive. Her favorite part was the immense ceiling. She looked intently at the small being who she assumed was a wizard if Kaye knew him. It looked oddly like a big ferret. She had met a few other alien wizards, this one was probably the cutest. "So, is anything wrong here? Or just greeting a friend?"

Some of the old humor returned into the alien's eyes. He loved seeing new things and he had never seen a human female before. "Dai stiho. I presume you are Ch'Kaye's friend? Well, you could say there is something wrong. something I can't handle." He looked down and made a small whuffing noise. Kaye knew it to be a noise of sorow but he had never heard it from his friend. "Whats the matter Chad? I have never seen you like this." Kaye knelt down to get at head level with the giant ferret and looked into his eyes. Kaye really cared about him. He could certainly tell his friend was hurt badly. What was he doing on Rirhath?

"Dai Stiho. So what is wrong? I'm sure we can help you. The Powers That Be would want us to, they might have even brought us here to help you. So, what's up?"
