Yeah. The novels. I need something clarified: What the hell is "imprinting?" Because I've looked it up and I've tried to have my friend describe it to me, and it freaks the shit out of me to think Stephanie Meyer would write something like that. I mean, I know it's a messed up series anyway, but having Jacob Black imprint on Reneesme is . . . wow.
Kayla, you are automatically exempt from this discussion.
And I promise I won't thrash you for enjoying the series (although I've made it more than clear that I hate - no, loathe - the series). I just want to understand the concept. Better.

Imprinting is where a werewolf meets it's... best possible match. Like a soul-mate. Said werewolf then becomes whatever the imprintee needs him to be just by sensing it. Whther the imprintee needs a big brother, a close friend, or a lover.
Books were nice, interesting but certainly not very high on my list.

In ecology, imprinting appears in many animals, such as when a sheep is born, it's mother and its child imprint and they automatically know each other, so if the baby is taken away and another baby is introduced, then the mother will reject it. Imprinting is a form of close connection that Stephanie Meyer used to show an incredibly close connection between the werewolves (shapeshifters) and their future mates.

. . . Kevin, your reply made Jacob sound much less like a pedophile. Thank you.
Cory, I'm sorry, but yours . . . didn't.
According to my roommate, the same could be said of ducks. First thing they see is Mama. But I definitely don't think that's the case with a half-vampire, half-human. Theoretically the first thing she'd see is whoever delivered her. Judging the relationship between the Blacks and Cullens, I highly doubt Edward let Jacob deliver Bella's baby (rhyming!).
I'm not trying to nitpick the book (okay . . . maybe I am) but I'm still having serious issues understanding the circumstances behind having Jacob imprint on Reneesme (sp? I keep feeling like I misspell it, and spell check is no help kthx). I get that Bella was all "omfg, blooooood" like Edward was with her . . . but I'm not seeing a need for imprinting.
Unless that makes Reneesme unappealing to Bella?

I think that Stephanie Meyer wrote that just so that most of the fans who read the book wouldn't be mad at her because Jacob was left all alone. Plus that way she wouldn't really have to write a whole nother series about Jacob and him finding his soul mate, you know.

I'd just like to point this out: Jacob is 18 years older than Reneesme. Having him imprint on a baby is . . . wrong. She has no choice. No shot. At least, that's how I'm looking at this.
And I'm a little grossed out.

Neither does Renesmee. After she turns seven, she's eternally 17. And he gave her a bracelet, which is the equivalent of a promise ring. Wiki didn't specify if it was the religious kind of promise ring or the high-school-lovers kind of promise ring.

Either way, Renesmee is certainly older in mind than she is in body, Give her a couple of years and she certainly would be smart enough to know how she would want her relationship with Jacob to be. Whatever she wanted, whether high-school-lover kind of thing or big brother kind of thing or something else, that is how jacob would act. It is a lot worse for Jacob than it is for Renesmee.

Honestly, it's not too wierd. Quil did the same thing, remember, with Claire. Claire's two. Kevin's right, Jacob will be her big brother, then her older brother and then her soulmate. The reason that there was no imprinting at birth was because the werewolves (shapeshifters) are the only ones that can imprint. And yes, Renesmee has no choice, but it doesn't matter because since he imprinted on her, that means he is going to be the best thing for her, and vice versa, which means she loves Jacob as much as he loves her.

Quil? Claire? No. I have no idea who they are. And that's disgusting. If I were forced to marry someone because they imprinted on me, I'd kill myself. She was better off being an immortal child, and being killed for that. I pity her. And I still hate Twilight.
