Silent paws kissed the ground, carrying the lean weight of the beast forward. Ears erect, listening to the rapid beat of the mouses heart. Black belly fur hung just a few inches from the leaf-covered ground. Indigo eyes slitted, muscles tense, pushing back into his haunches, waiting for the chance to- "Bao!" The mouse scampered away in fright, leaving Hunter the black and grey fox to snap at a stick in frustration. "Bao bao!" he glanced back, indigo eyes shooting daggers at the minute blue form bounding towards him. "Fuck. I thought you were going to play with Chihir, you scrawny, good for nothing little blue rat." "Bao?" Hunter sighed. "Well, no food for you, Bandit. You scared it away." He stood up and stretched his tight muscles, which apparently were still waiting to pounce the now long gone mouse, then wandered away. "Hey Hunter, Bandit. How'd hunting go? Didja get anything?" The light and dark brown fox trotted towards the pair, his yellow-brown eyes full of intense knowledge and wisdom. Squirrel may be a young fox, barely out of kit age, but he was the most intelligent creature around. Hunter suspected the young fox of some form of fore-sense. "No. You failed to keep him out of the way." Squirrel twitched his ears. "I'm sorry to hear that." Hunter just grunted back at him. "Where's Chi?" "Right here!" the dusty red and gold fox approached them from yet another direction, a grin on his face. "Arrow is gone for a little wile. You know how that wolf is." He walked right up to Hunter, sniffing his maw, "No catch, huh?" "No." Hunter said in his quiet, gruff tone. "Bao!" yelped Bandit. The blue cat-like creature ran up to Chihir and rubbed himself all over the fox, making a purring sound. Chihir licked him affectionately, then looked at the other two. "Well, day's dying. might as well get a move on. There is always trouble being born, which means there is always someone to help." He turned and loped away, Bandit right on his heels. "Chi's right. You can hunt again later, you big brute!" Squirrel laughed and danced away, following the pair. Hunter rolled his eyes. How did he manage to get involved in things like this? At a slower pace, Hunter sauntered after the other foxes and the...the blue thing.

A male red fox was running through the forest at top speed. He was scared, terrified actually. He couldn't remember a single thing. Why? Why couldn't he remember? He almost shouted at the top of his lungs with his utter, mind blowing confusion and frustration but he didn't, he was too scared. He was hurt. Beat up badly, scratches and bruises all across his body and he couldn't remember why but he must have to get away in case it happened again. He ran and ran and never looked back. His sharp ears faintly picked up a strange niose that seemed to echo through the forest to his ears but maybe he was just close. Or both. He tried to run even more. He couldn't. He couldn't run anymore. He collapsed near a small river. He was going to die and he only knew his name. Kale. He fainted with a moan by the river, one white paw in the fresh cool water

Chihir halted suddenly, head up as he scented the air. Bandit, being the inconvenience he was, tore off in the direction of the river. "BANDIT!" Chihir yelled, then bolted after the thing, just to halt again and look back at Hunter, "Do you think it's safe? The black brute fixed his indigo eyes on Chihir's golden one, then nodded slowly. The three foxes walked cautiously after their blue friend.
Bandit burst into the clearing and immediately spotted the thing he had scented- a fox! Yay! He charged over to the fallen vixar and poked him with his nose. "Brrrr?" Bandit called to him, nuzzling him again. "Brao! Bao!" he barked in his weird way a few times, then spotted Chihir sitting nearby, watching with his ever watchful eye. Hunter sat right by the forest and Squirrel was hidden in a bush. Slowly Chihir moved over beside Bandit, sat down again, curled his tail around his paws, and place a paw on the vixars side. "Hey." He said quietly as Bandit immediately set to licking the strange fox's neck.

He moaned as he woke back up. First thing he could think of was how badly his legs and paws hurt. They were on fire and even his bones, not just his muscles. He squirmed a little at the feeling on his neck. Something was near him. Touching him. He yelped and got to his feet quickly and yelped again as he legs gave way and his head rushed. He tried protect himself but he was in a sorry state and couldn't defend himself. He whined a little. He was going to die. 'This is how it ends. Curled up, whimpering, with no memory of who I am. Pathetic.' He thought to himself. But he couldn't move. He was hurting too much.

Bandit barked again as the fox flailed away from him. Chihir stood and went right in front of the fox so he would shee him. "You are all right, now. You are safe, friend." He shot a look at Hunter, who nodded and trotted off to find the fox something to eat. "Peace, little one. No one is going to harm you." Chihir layed down, touched his nose gently against the stranger's, then rested his head on his paws. Bandit began licking his forehead- the funny white marking intrigued him.
Hunter returned a few moments later with a squirrel in his mouth and deposited it by Chihir, then backed up until he was by Squirrel again. Chi nosed the squirrel towards the fox, "Hungry>"

Kale calmed down at the gentleness of the strangers. He didn't realize how hungry he was until food was in front of him. He curled himself up into a more comfortable position and tried to find words to say. Thousands of questions flooded his mind and instead of asking one he gaped slightly. He managed a nod at the red foxes inquery. Before he ate he looked at those around him. Four foxes. Two large, one a bit smaller, one much smaller that he wasn't even sure if it was a fox at all. He ate the squirrel, all of it, it took a lot of energy to run like that. He was thankfull for the four to have rescued him. He cleaned himself up and squirmed to the river. He couldn't talk until he drank some water. He looked into the crystal clear river and saw a reflection of himself in the water. What was that mark on his head? He drank and faced the foxes, feeling sleepy. "Who are you?" He blurted out instead of the thanks he meant to give. He knew it was always 'who are you?' He didn't know how he knew this or what it meant though.

"BAO!" Bandit howled, tail doing something that resembled wagging. Chihir smiled softly, "The noisy blue thing is Bandit. I'm Chihir. The black fox is Hunter and the brown hiding in the bushes is Squirrel." At their names, Squirrel and Hunter came forward, Hunter looking bored and uninterested and Squirrel looking nervous. Bandit curled up between Chi's paws and watched the fox curiously. "May I ask who you are and what you were running from?"

The fox took a deep and calming breath. He was starting to go into hysterics and he didn't want to. There was no point. "I'm Kale. At least, I think I'm Kale. I was running from, from, I don't know for sure. whatever did this to me." He said, trying to keep calm. "I," he was beggining to break down, "I lost all of it! I can't remember anything!" He began to sob. He wished he knew. Knew something. Anything more.

Chihir watched the little fox, sympathy in his eyes. Bandit crawled forward and nuzzled himself against Kale, puring sympathetically in an attempt to console him. Squirrel, his intellect piqued, jumped forward. "You are experiencing amnesia- if you didn't bump your head, then it is most likely being caused by whatever traumatic event you just went through. It scared you so much that your mind simply dumped it all." He sat down and sniffed rather primly for a 9 month old. Hunter immediately tackled the kit and bit his ear. "Behave." the black fox growled gruffly, stalking into the water and swimming around.

He thought about what Squirrel said. It made sense to him. He liked the little foxes intellegence, it had a kind of humor to see the young little fox sound so intelligent and superior. He assumed that since his head didn't hurt particualarly it must have been the event. An idea came to him and he instantly was in a serious thinking mood. "So if I was to get my memories I would have to find a trigger. Either facing what cuased my memory loss or finding something so linked to my that I would have to remember." He half stated, half asked. "Or something." He added, unsure of himself. He began to feel rather stupid. all he could do was sit there. If he moved, crippling pain was assured.

Squirrel nodded, licking his sore ear with difficulty. "Precisely. Would you be willing to face mind boggling fear again for the sake of your memories?" Squirrel asked, now peering intently at Kale's face. Hunter snorted and paddled back to shore, shaking himself off. "What fool wouldn't?" He growled in his cold, angry voice. "Besides, we'd protect you." He swished his tail in irritation and stalked away again, laying down under a tree. Squirrel flattened his ears at Hunter, then yawned. It was getting dark and it had been a busy day before having met Kale. He trotted over to the black brute and nuzzled against him. "We can do that tomorrow, though." With that he closed his brown eyes and went to sleep. Chihir shrugged, then nodded. "Smart idea. Chihir joind the group and curld up with his back touching Hunter's. Bandit looked confused for a moment, then nudged Kale towards the group. "Brrr?" He gazed up pleadingly. "You can join us." Chi yawned, putting his head on his paws.

Kale felt unusual. He didn't want to intrude on them. But in the end he limped over to the group. He felt safer with them. He liked them. They were nice. He was feeling even sleepier. He curled up with the group. feeling akward at first. but then just feeling tired. He was very close to the group but not actualy touching any one of them. He was asleep in minutes.

Bandit hummed happily as Kale joined the group and immediately curled up in Chihir's paws and fell instantly asleep. Within moments the entire group had drifted off.
As the suns rays began to tickle the morning sky, Hunter was first awake, as always. He untangled himself from Squirrel, who continued sleeping like a rock, and padded into the forest on silent paws. Time to catch breakfast. None of the quartet had eaten in nearly two days- game was difficult to catch because it was fall. Everything was in hiding or blending in with the red, brown, and gold leaves. He gazed up at these, the sun just beginning to crack over the horizon, and the leaves glowed with their fading life. Hunter was in luck this morning- nocturnal animals were sluggish as they worked their way back to their dens, and within twenty minutes he had killed three marmots, four fat mice, and a squirrel. He brought the kills back to the pack and set them in a pile before heading down to the water and crouched down, lapping up the sweet, clear water. Chihir raised his head with a huge, silent yawn, his teeth clicking quietly when his mouth closed. He watched Hunter for a moment, then gazed at Kale. Poor little fox. He flattened an ear, then set to licking Bandit as if the thing were his kit.

Kale was awake around the same time as Hunter but he wasn't ready to try and move yet. He just lay there, pretending to sleep, hoping his heart rate wouldn't give him away. As the large fox left he still just pretended to sleep. He was thinking very hard. Trying to remember where he had been. He wanted his memory back. As Chihir woke up too, Kale decided he could be awake. He got up limped over to the river and also drank from it. He was healing fast. All his cuts and bruises were gone or almost gone. His legs were heling up too. He could propably walk without much pain by the end of the day if the rate kept up. He was feeling shy and couldn't talk to them. Better to just wait and see if one of them talked. He walked away from the river, scratched his ear, and sat.

As the other two woke up and the foxes began moving around, no one spoke. It was perfectly normal to them- they were always silent in the mornings, even the disturber of the peace bandit was silent. Chihir took a marmot and layed down with it, Squirrel nabbed a mouse and wandered off a bit to eat it. Bandit grabbed another marmot and promptly took it over to Kale and placed it at kale's feet, nudged it with his nose, tail wagging, then went back and took the squirrel to eat. Hunter took the last marmot as Squirrel came up for another mouse. After Chi had finished his meal, he began to bathe, and finally broke the silence. "I suppose we continue life as normal. Since we don't know Kale's trigger for his memories, we are going to have to hope it comes to us. We can follow the path you made yesterday by following your scent. Maybe we'll get lucky." He shrugged at Kale, then resumed bathing. Squirrel glanced up, then spoke softly, "Don't expect it, though. Finding a trigger can be extremely difficult." Bandit simply said, "Bao!" And continued plowing through his squirrel. Hunter, as usual, said nothing and stared off into the distance.
